The method behind every recommendation on this site — starting with what we do not do.

What we do not do
We do not run physical durability tests. We do not have a testing lab. When we say a rug holds up in a high-traffic hallway, that is drawn from published construction specifications and patterns in verified owner reports — not from us walking on it for three months.
We also do not accept payment for placement, do not let brands review pages before they publish, and do not publish a price we cannot verify.
What we actually do
- Compare published specifications. Fiber, pile height, construction method, backing, dyeing process and the manufacturer's own care instructions. These are checkable facts, and getting them right is where most rug content falls down.
- Analyze patterns across owner reports at volume. Not one review — the recurring themes across many. "Owners consistently report jute shedding heavily for roughly the first month, then settling" is a claim we can stand behind. "We found it shed for a month" is not.
- Cross-check claims against fiber science. Why wool recovers from compression, why polypropylene is solution-dyed, why jute browns from its own tannins. These are material properties, they are documented, and they explain far more about a rug's behavior than a brand's marketing does.
- Verify the product is currently sold before it goes on a page, and re-verify on every review cycle. A dead link on a roundup costs a reader their time and costs us their trust.
- Name a real downside for every pick. Every rug in our 30-product registry carries a "don't buy it if". A roundup where everything is wonderful is a roundup nobody can use.
How products get selected
The criteria are ordered by what the room does to the rug, not by what is available to recommend:
- Fit for the specific use. A rug that is excellent in a bedroom and wrong under a dining table gets recommended for a bedroom.
- Construction quality for the price tier. We compare a budget rug against budget rugs, not against wool.
- Availability in the sizes the use actually needs. A brilliant rug that stops at 5x7 is not an answer for a living room.
- Honest failure mode. We would rather recommend a rug with one well-understood weakness than one whose problems are unpredictable.
- Buyer-first, always. Where a cheaper option is the better buy, it goes first regardless of what it earns us.
How we handle money
Loomandl & Ing earns affiliate commission from retailer links, and that is the site's only revenue. It never determines placement or ranking. Products we cannot monetize are still recommended when they are the right answer — there are several on this site.
On prices specifically: where we have no verified live price, the page says "Check price on Amazon" rather than displaying a number. A stale price is worse than no price, because it looks authoritative while being wrong. Full detail in the affiliate disclosure.
How we handle being wrong
With this much technical detail, some of it will be wrong. When we find out — or when a reader tells us — we correct the page and update its review date rather than quietly editing it. Substantive corrections get noted on the page itself.

Every page on this site displays a visible "Last reviewed" date. Where a competitor is ranking with a stale stamp from last year, an honest current one is the cheapest advantage available — and it only works if we actually do the review.
